This is the best bar in all of North America, according to the World’s 50 Best Bars 2025 list

But when it comes to North America, one destination continues to shine brightest, but it's not in the U.S.

Handshake Speakeasy in Mexico City was ranked number two in the world and named The Best Bar in North America. According to the voting experts, is a masterclass in precision, theater and warmth. Hidden behind unmarked doors in Colonia Juárez, this intimate space operates like a perfectly timed dance. Step through its heavy curtains, and the entire team greets you in unison, setting the tone for what’s to come. With gleaming gold accents, low lighting and a hint of 1920s glamor, the vibe is sensual, and every detail feels intentional. Drinks are creative and meticulously-crafted. Three Mexico City bars and three New York City bars made the top ten North American bars list alongside standouts in New Orleans, Toronto, Guadalajara and Chicago.

While no U.S. bar made the top ten best bars in the world, New York City keeps its cocktail crown with Superbueno at number 12, Sip & Guzzle debuting at number 39, Double Chicken Please at 41 and Overstory at number 46. The only other U.S. bar to make the list is Jewel of the South in New Orleans at number 44.
