A recent consumer travel habits study by global travel brand ASAP Tickets has revealed the most popular in-flight amenities that U.S. travelers will pay for. While travel costs have continued to rise, 93% of those surveyed said that certain upgrades are worth the extra cost for the added comfort and convenience.

So what is the one amenity that travelers cannot do without, even if it incurs a fee? 26% of travelers both male and female indicated that checked luggage is a must, and the most important extra that they are willing to pay for on top of the cost of a ticket. Despite relatively hefty fees and the risk of lost luggage, many travelers need the extra freedom of checking a bag.

The next most popular amenity that travelers will pay for is flight insurance. 20% of passengers book for their trips to protect themselves against any unexpected circumstances like flight cancellations which seem to happen more frequently. 15% of travelers are willing to pay for a seat selection, and about 10% will pay for extra luggage (surprisingly, more men are willing to pay for extra luggage than women). Extra legroom, WiFi services and in-flight meals round out the list of acceptable paid upgrades.

And as for those troupers who are willing do deal with the inconveniences that come with air travel and all it does not offer? To that seven percent, we salute you.
