Inspired by the historic Negro Motorist Greenbook that was used as a guide to help Black travelers safely travel the country during the Jim Crow era, diversity travel consultant Martinique Lewis has launched an app to help Black travelers promote and celebrate Black culture and business as they explore the world.

Martinique has researched diversity in the travel industry for years, releasing a Diversity in Travel scorecard for 2022 that highlights a lack of diversity in travel promotion, travel media, travel conferences and other aspects of the industry. She’s taken her knowledge of the industry and years of research into Black-owned businesses around the country and around the world and turned it into a new app that directly serves Black travelers looking to experience and amplify Black opportunities when traveling.

Based on her successful ABC Travel Greenbook, the new ABC Travel Greenbook app lets users find Black-owned businesses, tours, communities and events anywhere in the world. Users can leave ratings and write reviews, post photos, create and share itineraries focused on a destination’s Black experiences and connect—or even meet up—with like-minded travelers.

The app was released on June 2 and had more than 2,000 downloads in the first week.
