Next year marks the 50th anniversary of Adventureland Resort in Altoona, Iowa, and as part of the celebrations, the park is set to reveal a newly-refurbished favorite: The Underground, the world’s only fully-enclosed wooden roller coaster, will re-open in 2024.

The ride dives below the park as guests speed through an abandoned mine searching for Sheriff Sam's lost gold and the legendary outlaw Bad Bob. The story-driven experience offers plenty of thrills, challenges, surprises and twists as you dive deeper into the mine. The ride opened in 1996 and quickly became an all-ages fan favorite. It has undergone renovations for the past few years, including a complete rebuild and upgrades, including new technology and effects.

”This enhancement of Underground represents a major milestone for Adventureland, as we honor our past while embracing the future,” said Mike Lusky, Adventureland General Manager. “We can’t wait for our guests to embark on this new adventure as we celebrate the park’s 50th birthday in 2024.”

In addition to the Underground rehab, Adventureland has debuted 11 new rides over the last year. The park includes other popular rides like Monster, Tornado and the new Flying Viking roller coaster.
