Each year, online travel guide Travel Lemming puts together a list of 50 places in the world that their team of more than 35 travel experts considers destinations worth a visit in the coming year. This year’s list—with a theme of “slow travel” that focuses on spending more time in a destination—has been revealed, and three U.S. cities have made the top 10.

Following a year of what Travel Lemming calls “revenge travel,” when travelers were releasing “pent-up wanderlust” following the pandemic, the experts feel that now is the time to slow down and enjoy discovering remote destinations and emerging hidden gems. This year’s list features under-the-radar spots where you can really dig in and get a feel for the place.

Says Nate Hake, Travel Lemming's CEO, "2024 will be the year travelers choose immersive experiences over itineraries packed to the brim. Our list is filled with destinations perfect for slower experiential trips.”

Mexico's Yucatán state was named the top place to travel this year, but several unique spots in the U.S. appear on the list. The top U.S. city to visit in 2024, according to Travel Lemming, is Memphis, Tennessee. It’s a music lover’s city, inspiring the blues, soul and rock ‘n roll. And, of course, it’s the home of Elvis Presley’s Graceland, Sun Studios and a wealth of amazing barbecue joints.

Kodiak, Alaska and Eureka Springs, Arkansas also appear at the top of the list, at numbers eight and 10 respectively. Other U.S. cities that make the list alongside destinations all over the world include Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota; Vashon Island, Washington; Quincy, Massachusetts; Jacksonville, Florida; Spring Green, Wisconsin; Maunabo, Puerto Rico; Frisco, Texas; Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Bisbee, Arizona; Townsend, Tennessee; Klamath Falls, Oregon; Hoboken, New Jersey; Jenner, California and Yabucoa, Puerto Rico.
