Spooky season is soon upon us and nothing gets us more pumped for the freakiness ahead than the return of a good horror villain. Thankfully, Peacock provides: The streaming service has dropped a new trailer for the upcoming eight-episode Friday the 13th prequel series—and the teaser alone is delightfully giving us the creeps. Here's everything you need to know about the new horror series Crystal Lake, focused on Jason Voorhees's bloody origin story.

What is the Crystal Lake TV series about?
Starring Linda Cardellini (DTF St. Louis, Dead to Me) as Pamela Voorhees, the show is set before Jason starts his reign of terror in the 1980 horror film.
Pam is working as a camp cook in the town of Crystal Lake, but when her sickly son Jason (played by Callum Vinson) supposedly drowns, she can’t let go. Pam begins to “unravel, evolving into the psychopath killer that would seek revenge on Camp Crystal Lake's counselors for failing to look after her son,” the official logline reads. “But is Pam the only danger out in those woods?”

It starts off as a nostalgic recreation of summer camp vibes and quickly becomes a campy, horror-filled waking nightmare as Pam begins to behave like “Jason” eventually will. It’s a fun exploration of Friday the 13th lore with a female lead—and we’re here for it.
Who is in the cast of Crystal Lake?
Along with the aforementioned series leads Cardellini and Vinson, Crystal Lake also stars William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, Gwendolyn Sundstrom, Callum Vinson, Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik.
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane (Welcome To Derry) says Cardellini's performance, in particular, will “shock and surprise a lot of people,” per an Entertainment Weekly interview in 2025. “I think she's gonna get a lot of attention for this role. She's inconceivably brilliant in it.”
