No surprise here: according to a new report by personal finance website WalletHub, Nevada is the most sinful state across the U.S. We wonder if the recent news about the 2024 arrival of the Majestic Las Vegas—a new resort that will apparently ban gambling and smoking—might, perhaps, change that ranking in the near future.

To come up with the list, the company compared all 50 states based on seven sinful behaviors, including jealousy, anger and hatred, greed, excesses and vices, lust, vanity and laziness—specifically looking at 47 key indicators of immoral or illicit behavior.

According to the study, our vices aren't only affecting our moral character and social disposition: smoking is costing the United States $300 billion a year while gambling comes along with a $5 billion a year price tag. Let's vow to try and be better citizens of the world moving forward?

In addition to the ranking, WalletHub has unearthed a few interesting facts: Wyoming is considered the least sinful state across the land while Idaho has the fewest thefts per 1,000 residents. Colorado, on the other hand, boasts the lowest share of obese adults while Utah claims the lowest percentage of adult smokers.

And so, without further ado, here are the top 10 most sinful states in the country. Feel free to browse through the entire report right here.
