The first day of National Park Week takes place on Saturday, April 22, and to celebrate, all National Park Service sites are welcoming guests for free—even those that normally charge an entrance fee. Hikers, bikers, and walkers alike can reap the benefits of the great outdoors without thinking twice about bringing their wallets (although, you probably don’t want to leave home without that anyway).

National Park Week, a 9-day celebration of all things parks, kicks off its weeklong programming by encouraging everyone to flock to their local (or not-so-local) parks and take advantage of fee-free adventures. There are over 400 national parks in the United States and you can peep a list of all of those that are waiving their entry fee on the 22nd.

Make sure to look ahead at park hours and look into any additional costs you may incur if you’re interested in add-ons like tours, camping, or transportation. And if you can’t take advantage of the last-minute park excursion, fret not—this summer brings more opportunities to benefit from free park days. Get your hiking boots ready!
