Vancouver, your cool credentials just went global. Again.
Mount Pleasant has officially been named one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world, landing at number 35 on Time Out’s brand-new ranking of the 40 coolest neighbourhoods on the planet for 2026.
Anyone who’s spent an afternoon bouncing between Main Street coffee shops, vintage stores, murals, breweries and restaurants is probably responding with a very Vancouver-ish: Yeah, that tracks.
The annual list was assembled with nominations from Time Out’s global network of local experts, before a panel of editors assessed the finalists on everything from food, drink and nightlife to independent businesses, liveability and community spirit.
Mount Pleasant ticked plenty of boxes.
Why Mount Pleasant is having a moment
Once an industrial neighbourhood with brewing in its DNA, Mount Pleasant has evolved into one of Vancouver’s great creative playgrounds.
Destination Vancouver describes it as a mix of owner-run boutiques, breweries and independent restaurants centred around Main Street, with public art, vintage shopping and a strong sense of community thrown in for good measure.
Time Out’s global editors singled out its colourful murals, pedestrian-friendly streets, cycling routes, coffee culture and deep-rooted brewery scene, along with institutions including Neptoon Records and a seriously good collection of thrift and vintage shops.
There’s even a new public plaza at Main and 14th adding more hang-out space to the neighbourhood.
And Mount Pleasant isn’t standing still: Netflix opened a massive 110,600-square-foot animation studio in the neighbourhood this year, with more than 450 people already working from the new Vancouver hub. It’s a pretty fitting arrival for an area long associated with artists and creatives.
Welcome to Vancouver’s cool corridor
Here’s where things get even better.
Cambie Street forms Mount Pleasant’s western boundary, and Cambie was itself ranked among the world’s coolest streets in 2025, coming in at number 20 globally.
Keep travelling south on Cambie and, roughly 12 minutes later, you’ll hit Oakridge Park and the brand-new Time Out Market Vancouver. The Market opened this year at West 41st and Cambie with a lineup spanning some of the city’s most exciting chefs and restaurants.
In other words, Vancouver now has quite the coolness axis happening: start with coffee, murals, vintage shopping and breweries in Mount Pleasant, cruise down one of the coolest streets on Earth, then arrive at a Market packed with some of Vancouver’s best food.
Not a bad little victory lap.
