Tiles, cocktails and new friends: Time Out Market Vancouver is turning Monday night into game night

Your Monday night plans just got considerably more competitive.
Time Out Market Vancouver is hosting a free Mahjong Monday Social Drop-In on August 24, giving Vancouverites a chance to grab some tiles, pull up a chair and put their game face on over dinner and drinks.
Hosted by Lucky Tile Mahjong, the social runs from 6 pm to 9 pm in the Market’s Hideaway Lounge, tucked near the cocktail bar. Players can simply show up and join a table, with games available on a first-come, first-served basis. Some Mahjong experience is required, but there’s no fee to play.
In other words: bring your skills, order something delicious and prepare to become emotionally invested in little rectangular tiles.
And if your current Mahjong knowledge begins and ends with matching tiles on a computer screen, don’t worry. The Market also hosts Mahjong 101 workshops, teaching Hong Kong-style Mahjong through guided exercises and practice games with real-time coaching. The next workshop with availability is October 14 at 7 pm, followed by another on November 18.
Can’t make this Monday? More free Mahjong socials are scheduled for September 21, October 19 and November 30, all from 6 pm to 9 pm.

Dinner is only the beginning.
Since opening at Oakridge Park, Time Out Market Vancouver has been steadily building a social calendar designed to give you reasons to stick around long after the last dumpling, taco or cocktail arrives.
Sunday Supper Club brings live jazz to the Market every Sunday from 5 pm to 8 pm, while MainStage Mondays feature live musicians from 6 pm to 9 pm. Thursday nights go gloriously retro with Video DJs mixing music videos on the Market’s enormous 24-foot Mainstage screen from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Then the weekend gets louder. Friday Night Party sees DJs take over from 7 pm to 10 pm, while Saturdays are basically a doubleheader: SaturDAY Live showcases local performers from noon to 3 pm, followed by a Saturday night DJ from 7 pm to 10 pm.
Beyond the weekly music lineup, the Market’s cultural calendar includes sports screenings, workshops, cultural performances and interactive events, with the Hideaway Lounge and Time Out Corner used for hands-on programming ranging from Mahjong lessons to candle-making and cocktail classes.
Which all makes choosing where to eat with a group considerably easier. Everybody can order something different from the Market’s lineup of Vancouver restaurants, somebody can grab the drinks, and the evening’s entertainment has already been sorted.
