Lunch Lady is going global. The wildly popular Vancouver-born Vietnamese restaurant is preparing to open its first Asian location in Manila, Philippines, adding another stamp to a passport that already includes Vancouver and Toronto.
But Vancouverites don’t need a plane ticket to get in on the action. Lunch Lady is also one of the star vendors at Time Out Market Vancouver, which opened at Oakridge Park this May. The Market outpost serves a tight, flavour-packed menu featuring dishes like steak lúc lắc, garlic noodles and Vietnamese noodle soups, making it an easy way to see why this homegrown success story keeps travelling.

From Vancouver to Manila
The original Commercial Drive restaurant opened in 2020, created by Michael Tran and chef Benedict Lim in collaboration with the late Nguyễn Thị Thanh, the legendary Saigon street-food cook made famous internationally by Anthony Bourdain.
Now, Lunch Lady Manila is expected to open in Bonifacio Global City this fall. According to Lim and Tran, roughly half the menu will feature Vancouver favourites, while the rest will draw on seasonal ingredients found in the Philippines.
Not bad for a restaurant that started life on the Drive. And with Lunch Lady now dishing up at Time Out Market Vancouver, its next chapter is being written abroad while one foot stays very firmly planted at home.
