North Yorkshire's main city is famous for having more pubs than days of the year, a massive cathedral (York Minster is so big that it has its own police force) and more intact Roman walls than any other city in the UK. And that's on top of the many marvellous museums, shops, restaurants and other great things to do there.

A place with this much quirk, we think you'll agree, deserves to be paired with a stay somewhere just as characterful, which is why we've been rooting through Airbnbs in York to find the best residential personalities in all shapes and sizes (and budgets). From a shepherd's hut alongside the River Ouse to a 600-year-old Tudor joint overlooking the cathedral, all you have to do is pick your perfect overnighter.
