Time Out Group, the leading global media and entertainment business that inspires and enables people to make the most of a city, announces today that Joel Meares has been named Editor-in-Chief of Time Out North America and Jillian Anthony as Editor of Time Out New York.
The appointments come as Time Out continues to grow its brand, audience, reach and national expansion across North America with websites now available in over 30 cities and free print magazines in NYC (including Time Out New York Kids), Chicago, L.A. and Miami. In his newly created role, Joel will oversee the collective and consistent content output across all of Time Out’s U.S. cities with all city Editors reporting into him.
Joel Meares joined Time Out as National Content Editor in 2015 and since then has overseen the growth of the brand across North America, launching the Time Out USA website, steering the launch of magazines in Miami, L.A. and Chicago, and growing Time Out’s audience. In 2016, he was appointed National Content Director as well as Content Director for Creative Solutions, a role in which he has executed a number of big-scale national and international custom content campaigns. Joel previously was Editor of Time Out Sydney, Arts and Entertainment Editor of The Sydney Morning Herald and worked for the(sydney)magazine and The Columbia Journalism Review, where he won a Mirror Award for profile writing.
Jillian Anthony has been promoted from Sections Editor to Editor of Time Out New York, following the departure of Carla Sosenko in January 2017. Before joining Time Out New York, Jillian worked as the Associate Editor at Manhattan magazine, Special Projects Assistant at CNNMoney and freelanced for publications such as Conde Nast Traveler and GOOD magazine. She began her career in New York City as a research assistant to the late investigative reporter Wayne Barrett.
