Yes this is the fine print. No fee to enter the competition! ___________________________________________________________________ Sung Ming Shu Annual Chili/Brownie Cook Off Rules 3 Categories: Vegetarian Chili, Chili, and Brownies (Very cool prizes and bragging rights for winners in each category.) 1. Unlike most official cook off rules, we, having as a founding philosophy "Open Mind," will allow anything in the recipe. So at Sung Ming Shu, you can make a broccoli, bison and butternut squash chili or suet and sweetbread brownies if you so desire (be sure to read rule number 2). The exception that proves the rule: Veggie Chili can use no animal products. 2. All cooks must be willing to sample their own entries in public. 3. Each submission must have a name and a 50 - 200 word description. (See samples from previous years) Please remember this is a family friendly contest. There are three divisions: Chili, Vegetable Stuff Called Chili, and Brownies. To enter, submit your name, Cuong Nhu rank or affiliation, division and description no later than 24 hours before the contest, so we can plan on tables and power cords. 4. Chili cooks should prepare at least 4 quarts of chili; brownie cooks at least 25 brownies (cut 3 in. X 3 in) and a slew of baby sized samples (think of those puny little cheese samples at Kroger, minimum 1/2 inch cube). Remember, the winner is based on number of sales (samples included), so if all the really good cooks run out and the crummy cook has more to sell, the crummy cook might win. 5. Cooks should invite their friends and relatives. Cooks should ask their neighbors and even bribe total strangers into coming. The more people coming means more votes for your entry. You are NOT allowed to give away free beer with your chili or free milk with your brownies -see rule number 6 below. 6. Beer, wine, milk, and soda will be available from Sung Ming Shu, this is a fundraiser. 7. Cooks will need to bring what ever they will use to keep their chili and brownies at appropriate serving temperature. This may be a crock-pot, stew pot on top of a hot plate, or any other required accessory. The very snooty are allowed to use their silver chafing dish or serving tray. 8. Cooks can provide any additions/toppings they want (a snickers bar is not a topping. A can of beer is not a topping -see rule number 6 above) 9. Cooks are allowed to decorate their area as they please, showmanship is encouraged. Costumes are permitted, bikini wearing ukulele players score extra points but only when promoting a Hawaiian theme and Sensei Jeremy is the one wearing the bikini. 10. Tickets will be sold for $1.00 each, 12 for $10, 25 for $20 and can be exchanged as follows: 1 ticket for a 2 oz sample cup of chili or stamp sized brownie sample 5 tickets for a bowl of chili (approximately 12 oz) or a 3 inch square brownie 3 tickets for a cold beer or a glass of wine 2 tickets for a glass of milk or soda 11. Cooks collect tickets for samples and servings. Within each category, the cook that collects the most tickets wins. 12. The previous years winner is not allowed to enter but is expected to participate with a demonstration of their winning submission. Any tickets the previous years winner collects can be "spent" sampling the officially entered cooks chili, beer, wine, etc. 13. More rules may be added at any time.
