On Saturday, June 18th, the Butler Street YMCA in conjunction with the Sweet Auburn Music Walk of Fame will host a Celebration of Black Fathers. This one day event will bring together all the elements of positive Fatherhood.

The Butler Street YMCA is striving to preserve its legacy on Auburn Avenue while the Music Walk of Fame celebrates the history Black Music on Auburn Avenue focusing on those Artists who performed at the Royal Peacock and the Casino. Together they are forging a union for the preservation of Sweet Auburn Avenue’s illustrious history.

This is a celebration of young men seeking to take care of their responsibilities. The Father’s Day Celebration does not represent just another festival; it symbolizes a celebration of those Men who have chosen to take responsibility for their environment and help to make it a better place to live. It embodies the sacrifice of those who forged the way such as: John Wesley Dobbs, Daddy King, William Homes Borders and Alonzo Herndon. In addition to those who made Sweet Music (Sounds) on Auburn Avenue like James Brown, Alley Pat and Jack the Rapper,to name a few. The Father’s Day Celebration unites those who are striving to be good fathers though the odds may be against them at times. Activities include information on self help, legal assistance for single fathers, men’s health, car show, vendors, music and much more.
