Everyone has their own strategy for JP Porchfest. Some map out every stop weeks in advance. Others simply wander until they hear something they like. For one afternoon, musicians take over porches, front yards and driveways throughout Jamaica Plain, turning the neighborhood into a free, walkable music festival where dozens of performances unfold at the same time. There's no wrong way to do it. Follow a favorite band, bounce from block to block or let the sound of a guitar around the corner make your next decision for you. You'll probably hear a genre you weren't expecting and discover an artist you hadn't planned on seeing. If you've never experienced Porchfest before, it's one of the best reminders that Boston's neighborhood events are often the ones people look forward to most.
