If your idea of a relaxing Saturday involves starring in your own personal episode of Hot Ones, Boston's got you. covered this weekend. That's right: Spicetoberfest, the city’s fall festival of spice, food and culture, returns to Boston City Hall Plaza on Saturday October 3, and admission is completely free.

The fiery festival takes over the plaza’s North Terrace this Saturday from 11am to 6pm, bringing together local chefs, farmers, hot-sauce makers, food entrepreneurs, artists and small businesses for a day devoted to the joys of the fall harvest.
The main attraction for chiliheads is the “Are You Brave Enough” Hot Sauce Challenge, running throughout the festival. There’s also a Spice Lane market packed with local hot peppers and hot-sauce makers, so you can discover your next favorite bottle (which might also make you question your life choices).
The food lineup comes with a side of major cooking talent. Chef Morgan Spivey of Luxe P Kitchen Catering kicks things off at noon, followed by Greencrab.org’s Chef Mary Parks at 1:30pm. Chef Chris Faison from Hell’s Kitchen season 24 takes over at 3pm, and Yardie BBQ Delights’ Chef Audley Mills closes out the chef demonstrations at 4:30pm.
And when you need to give your taste buds a rest, you can sip some milk and enjoy live music and cultural performances, including Caribbean and jazz singer Safiya, Boston Bhangra Dancers, Samba Lola’s African drumming and dance, and Willie Colon and El Grupo Chevere performing Latin jazz from 5pm to 6pm. Families can also hit the photo booth, do karaoke and play games in the Family Fun Zone.
Or, if you need something a little stronger to wash down all that spice, the Taste of the Harvest Bar Lounge will serve farm-forward cocktails curated by Kyisha Davenport of BarNoir Boston. There are two lounge sessions, running noon to 3pm and 3pm to 6pm. (It’s a cash bar, so plan accordingly.)
You can also make your own hot sauce with a $15 DIY Hot Sauce Kit or pick up a $25 limited-edition Spicetoberfest T-shirt. And VIP tickets are available for anyone who wants to turn a free festival into a slightly more luxe affair with farm-forward artisan cocktails and more.
