There’s a newly anointed “Duke and Duchess of route 1,” the recently wed couple who married on a boat in Boston Harbor and had their reception at the world famous Kowloon restaurant in Saugus.

The restaurant shared on social media last week that it would close for a private event for the first time in 73 years to host “Kayla and Jon’s Wedding” and people across the state have been curious about the details ever since.

The restaurant’s post was very clear that they would be closed, even for take out, “Just a reminder that we will be closed on Saturday, August 19th for a private event. Take out will be available and end at 6 pm."

The restaurant’s post on X (formerly known as Twitter), garnered over 500k views and a slew of excited comments, with users wondering, “Good lord what did that cost the couple?”

Others said, “I’m gate crashing” and most just wished the couple well, with one user writing, Kayla and Jon made a good decision. sounds like the marriage will be a success.”

Boston journalist and extremely funny person Megan Johnson shared a few photos, and declared the wedding “incredible.”

To keep it super Boston, guests were told to wear their New England sports jerseys, and they turned it up in Pats jerseys and Celtics gear. The place seemed packed, and according to the Boston Globe, the reception served spare ribs and the happy couple was toasted with Mai Tais. There was also air hockey and a petting zoo that included goats and ducks.

For the ceremony itself, the bride wore a custom fuchsia mini dress with a dramatic train, and of course Kayla changed into a voluminous red dress to match the venue for the reception.

Cass B by Design created both looks, and documented the process of creating the jaw-dropping red dress in a YouTube video.

Not everyone loved the wedding reception, of course, with one post on X calling it a “Cheezy bro wedding.” They were quickly shut down by a commenter reminding them, “Watch your mouth. This is royalty.”
