If you're a Mahjong fan and don't want to miss out on the action while you travel, Kimpton Hotels is here for you. Starting this month at select Kimptons around the globe and right here in Boston at Kimpton Marlowe Hotel, you can borrow a luxe Mahjong set for a little friendly competition after a day out. The best part? It's free.
Mahjong may be centuries old, but it’s having a very modern moment. Social clubs dedicated to the tile game have been popping up everywhere from Los Angeles to London, and Boston is getting in on the action. Mahjong & Mingle, Kimpton’s newest program, is set to turn vacation downtime into a stylish game night.
Designed by artist Lulie Wallace, the Mahjong tile sets available to borrow at select Kimptons are colorful, graphic and Instagram-ready. You can check one out, bring it back to your room and jump straight into a round. It’s an easy way to unwind after a day of sightseeing or shopping, and an added bit of entertainment if you’re traveling with friends or family. As part of the experience, you can also order a Mahjong-inspired cocktail along with your set. Because if you’re going to argue over tiles, you might as well do it with a good drink in hand.
This latest offer expands on the thoughtful extras Kimpton is known for: complimentary evening wine hour, pet-friendly perks and comfortable, boutique charm. Kimpton also recently partnered with Tiny Zaps to offer complimentary tattoos at select hotels.
The Kimpton Marlowe sits right on the Charles River in Cambridge, with views of the Boston skyline and quick access to Beacon Hill, the North End and Kendall Square. After a walk along the Esplanade or a museum stop nearby, settling in with a Mahjong game is a cozy contrast to the buzz of the city. It’s also a nice nod to Boston’s mix of old-school tradition and modern energy.
So if your Boston plans include holiday lights, historic walks and maybe a little friendly competition, the Marlowe is offering another reason to stick around and enjoy the hotel.
