New exhibits

While it is too late to catch the official Obama portraits, there are so many cool exhibits coming to the Museum of Fine Arts this season. One that is currently on show until January 16 is “LIFE Magazine and the Power of Photography.” This exhibit reveals some of the most well know images from LIFE Magazine. Life magazine was published weekly from 1936 to 1972 and at its core were its photo-essays, which often included some of the most evocative images from this period in American history. According to the MFA, “This exhibition takes a closer look at the creation and impact of the carefully selected images found in the pages of Life—and the precisely crafted narratives told through these pictures—in order to reveal how the magazine shaped conversations about war, race, technology, national identity, and more in the 20th-century United States.”

Dining at the Museum of Fine Arts

Did you know that the MFA has a full-service, sit-down restaurant? You may not have realized on a past visit that the MFA has a full-service restaurant where you can order creative, New England style dishes, as well as a selection of beer, wine and cocktails. The New American Café is open for lunch and dinner most days and has some delightful dishes on the menu. Located in Ruth and Carl J. Shapiro Family Courtyard, i.e. the main atrium with the striking green, glass sculpture in the center, the New American Café is a great pitstop in between galleries.

How much are tickets to the MFA?

Tickets for general admission for adults is $27 and kids age 7-17 are $10, 6 years old and under are free. And if you want to access the LIFE Magazine exhibit as well, your ticket will cost $7 more. The MFA is open daily except for Tuesdays.
