Some years back, Flour put this then-desolate stretch of Washington Street on the culinary map—and X still marks Joanne Chang’s sweet spot for baked-treasure hunters. Pastel hues and a chalkboard menu make this place as cute as a cupcake—or any of the other goodies gracing the counter, for that matter, from honest sticky buns to sugar-sprinkled vanilla cream donuts to fat chocolate-chip macaroons that could convert even sworn coconut-loathers. The sandwiches are no mere afterthought—curried tuna salad and BLTs are the hot sellers.
