After moving to Boston in 2O14 from Venezuela, Ana Baptista always looked for ways to meet new people and create community through photography and social media. While social media industry events were fun, not being able to invite women who weren’t a part of the industry was a concern for Ana. She daydreamed about an inclusive community of women in Boston regardless of the industry they worked, and so GirlFriends was born.

GirlFriends started as a passion project but quickly blossomed into much more. Connecting women, building genuine friendships and helping businesses gain broader exposure around the city has not only been fulfilling but has become lucrative enough for Ana to work on her organization full-time.

We caught up with Ana to find out what a typical day working on @girlfriendsboston looks like as well as hear about all her favorite places around Boston.

How Ana spends her day

10am

While many on many days, Ana needs to buckle down and get to work immediately, an ideal day starts off more leisurely by heading over to Cafe Landwer or Tatte to grab an oat milk latte and a BLAT.

11am

One of Ana’s favorite spots to answer emails is the Boston Public Library, which is an often overlooked free, historic, co-working space. Perfect for freelancers, students, solo-preneurs and anyone who wants a quiet space to work that isn’t home or a traditional office!

1pm

Time for a lunch break at Cava or Greco, and then a midday walk through the Public Garden. And in the summertime, this is truly one of the best places to be in Boston.

2pm

After lunch, Ana usually picks a new spot to work and ideally likes to explore a new neighborhood. Some of her go-tos right now are: Faro Coffee, Greystone and Zinneken's. She is usually busy working on upcoming events, posting social media content and speaking with vendors before ending the workday.

6pm

Before heading home, she likes to treat herself to a smoothie from Pink Carrot or perhaps a cannoli from Bova's while enjoying a summertime sunset from the harbor in the North End!

8pm

Dinner with some (girl)friends to catch up, either at Oliveira's Steakhouse in Somerville or at Carmelina's in the North End. But if she is heading home after a long day and feels like takeout, Kala Thai or Ducali's are her favorite spots.
