If you are looking for something special to do as winter starts to take hold in Cape Town and the surrounding areas, this event at La Motte in the gorgeous Franschhoek Valley is definitely something you need to mark in your calendar.

Dubbed 'A Sensory Experience on the Horizon', the showcase on Friday, 5 June, merges the worlds of art, food, and wine into an evening of appreciation for the craft of each.

Inspired by La Motte's current art showcase at their Ateljee, entitled Van Horison tot Horison, guests will be treated to a sensory experience showcasing the beauty of art in all its facets, including a horizontal Chardonnay tasting presented by Cellarmaster Edmund Terblanche and a dinner in L’Ami Family Brasserie, which will be inspired by the landscape, the works of art housed in the La Motte Ateljee, and La Motte's world famous wines themselves.

To add an extra layer of exclusivity to the event, a special selection from the estate's Reserve Collection and Rupert Vinoteque will be served.

How to book tickets

The event starts at 17h30 on Friday, 5 June 2026, and tickets are available directly through La Motte's website for R1,350 per person.

A little bit of La Motte history

La Motte’s origins date back to 1695, when German immigrant Hans Hendrick Hattingh was granted the land on which the modern-day wine estate stands.

In 1709, Pierre Joubert purchased the land and named it La Motte, a tribute to the French village of La Motte-d’Aigues, located in the Provence region in the South of France.

In 1752, the first grapevines were planted by Gabriel du Toit, with 4,000 vines forming the start of the incredible wine tradition and international acclaim the farm would go on to be known for.

This legacy was boosted in 1970 when Dr Anton Rupert purchased the farm and began a series of upgrades and renovations in order to future-proof the land and its infrastructure.

This move led to La Motte becoming a must-visit attraction in the Franschhoek Valley and to the preservation of its wine-making excellence, which has stood the test of time.

In 2026, current owner Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg and her husband, Hein Koegelenberg, La Motte's Chief Executive Officer, are tasked with ensuring the legacy lives on for generations to come.

Visitors to La Motte are not short on options for exploration, with wine tasting, fine dining, artisanal baked goods, farm-to-table shopping, art exhibits, and hiking all providing a day out to remember.
