Christmas is coming, and Cape Town is getting ready to turn up the festive cheer - especially when it's listed as one of the best places to visit for Christmas in the world.

Whether you're after a free family outing, a traditional carols concert or an evening of Christmas classics with a glass of wine, plenty is happening across the Mother City.

Where can I see Christmas lights in Cape Town in 2026?

Cape Town's festive season officially kicks off on Sunday, 29 November 2026, with the free Festive Lights Switch-On at the Grand Parade and along Adderley Street. It's one of the city's biggest Christmas celebrations, with live music, entertainment and thousands of Capetonians joining the festivities.

Other popular spots to enjoy Christmas lights and festive cheer include the V&A Waterfront and the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden - although some 2026 festive programmes are still to be confirmed, we'll keep updating until we're in full swing for Dezemba!

For Christmas carols, look out for concerts at Ratanga Park in Century City, St George's Cathedral and Cape Point Vineyards in Noordhoek.

So, read on for our detailed guide to some of the best festive lights and carols events to add to your calendar, with more celebrations to be announced.
