From Roma To Caneças

This Must Be the Place gallery, located in Cidadela Art District, hosts the exhibition FROM ROMA TO CANEÇAS from 10 October to 14 November, developed in collaboration with the Letreiro Galeria project. The show brings together a selection of old twentieth-century Portuguese commercial signs that used the names of cities, countries or places – such as Retrosaria Roma, Lavandaria Texas, Bar Atlântico and Pastelaria Caneças – to give neighbourhood businesses an air of cosmopolitanism, elegance or geographical proximity. As well as safeguarding the graphic, typographic and social memory of cities, the exhibition includes a limited edition of screenprints and notebooks, with proceeds supporting the ongoing rescue and conservation of Letreiro Galeria’s collection.
