In the former Torre de S. Sebastião, built between 1897 and 1900 on the Santa Marta cove on the initiative of aristocrat and financier Jorge O'Neill, this remarkable piece of Cascais holiday architecture can be found in today's Marechal Carmona Park. In 1924, the Count of Castro Guimarães bequeathed the house and all its artistic and bibliographical contents to the town of Cascais in his will, to be used as a municipal museum and public library, in conjunction with the gardens and the neighbouring park 'for public recreation'.
