The Municipality of Cascais kicked off the bathing season last Friday, 1 May, with a ceremony at Praia da Parede.

This year, Cascais continues to offer what is described as the longest bathing season in the country, running from 1 May to 30 September. Over this period, the municipality’s 13 bathing beaches and two ocean pools will be staffed by 60 lifeguards, as part of a reinforced commitment to monitoring and swimmer safety.

Throughout the bathing season, regular monitoring of water and sand quality will also be carried out across all beaches, through analyses of microbiological parameters, fungi and yeasts. This will allow for the identification of any contamination and the strengthening of public health safety for beachgoers.

The group of bathing beaches includes Carcavelos, Tamariz, Conceição, Rainha, Moitas, Azarujinha, Avencas, Guincho, Crismina, Duquesa, Poça, São Pedro do Estoril and Parede. Three of these beaches – Carcavelos, Tamariz and Conceição – are classified as accessible, with equipment and support provided by volunteers from the Maré Viva programme, aimed at improving access to both sand and sea for all users.
