A fan of Madeiran espetadas, limpets, bolo do caco, poncha or even the passionfruit Brisa? Good news: you can taste them all without hopping on a plane. From September 25 to 28, Cascais’ Mercado da Vila hosts Ao Gosto da Madeira, a festival celebrating the island’s gastronomy.

Over four days, sample some of Madeira’s most iconic treats – from freshly baked bolo do caco and pregos to lapas, poncha, and Coral beer, the island’s favourite tipple alongside these delicacies.

The aim is simple: bring the best of Madeira to the mainland, curated by Madeirans themselves to recreate an authentic island experience. The Mercado da Vila, already a hotspot for food events, will be transformed into a tiny slice of Madeira, making Cascais the place to be for anyone keen to discover – or revisit – the island’s flavours.

Mercado da Vila, Cascais. 25–28 Sept (Thu–Sun). Free entry
