The Talaíde area, in the municipality of Cascais, will soon be home to a new high-performance surf centre featuring a cutting-edge wave pool, Cascais City Council announced in early August.
According to the municipality, the project will be built on a 90,000-square-metre site, currently unused, on the border with Sintra and Oeiras, near Taguspark. The goal is for it to be completed by 2030.
In addition to the sports hub, the plan includes two hotels, commercial and service areas, and several green leisure spaces that will help support environmental protection. Mobility will also be strengthened, with improved public transport to the area, light mobility connections, and, on the road network, the construction of a new Level 3 route to improve accessibility to the new urban and sports hub.
The initiative is the result of private investment, which the council says will establish São Domingos de Rana as a new hub for sport, tourism and sustainable urban development. Deputy Mayor Nuno Piteira Lopes believes the project will be transformative, “placing Cascais at the forefront of sports innovation”.
