It's the latest addition to the international scene of lyrical competitions: the Cascais Opera - International Singing Competition has arrived in Cascais. For opera enthusiasts, this competition is the perfect destination, while those unfamiliar with the genre gather to discover more and perhaps develop a special taste for the dramatic art of singing. Between April 6th and 14th, at the Cascais Cultural Centre, the National Theatre of São Carlos, and the Estoril Casino, there will be plenty of opportunities to delve into the world of Cascais Opera.

Trial by Trial

The festivities kicked off at the Cascais Cultural Centre, where a warm welcome was extended to all involved in driving this competition forward. At the opening ceremony on April 6th, the focus was on music, opera, and starting these days on a high note.

Without much rest, the first trials began at the Cascais Cultural Centre on April 7th and 8th. This is where candidates who had the opportunity to advance to live performances showcased their talents, with sessions open to the public. After all were evaluated and doubts were cleared, the best advanced to the semi-final stage. From April 10th to 11th, the audience could enjoy two opera arias and one lied or chanson from each contestant. It's like music to the ears of opera aficionados.

The Grand Finale

But in the end, there can only be one winner, and for that, the highly anticipated grand event serves its purpose. On April 14th, at the National Theatre of São Carlos, the final takes place on a stage that has seen many successes and celebrated many careers. This time, it's the contestants of Cascais Opera who will sing, accompanied by the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra. Now that everything is well explained, only one thing remains to be known. Who will raise the trophy as the grand winner and claim the Égide Grand Prix?

For those who can't sing yet

There's always something more to do in Cascais, and Cascais Opera is no exception. On April 11th, all roads lead to the Estoril Casino to enjoy an opera gala "Carmen for Berganza," paying homage to Teresa Berganza. A Spanish mezzo-soprano, considered one of the greatest of all time, who has always declared her love for Portugal.

You can choose between a Voice Masterclass and a Representing Masterclass through the method of singing. They are open to students, singers, and candidates alike.
