Coala Festival Portugal has just announced Caetano Veloso as the latest addition to its third edition, scheduled for 30 and 31 May at the Hipódromo Manuel Possolo. In contrast, Maria Bethânia will no longer perform at this year’s festival.

In a statement, the organisation and the artist confirmed that the appearance has been cancelled, while leaving open the possibility of a future reunion. A few hours later, the festival’s newest addition was confirmed: one of the biggest names in Brazilian and global music. The festival organisers stressed that this is not a replacement, as Caetano’s performance had already been confirmed, it had simply not yet been announced.

With a career spanning more than five decades, Caetano Veloso is a central figure in the Tropicália movement and the author of a repertoire that has crossed generations. Over the years, he has built a body of work that has shaped Brazilian culture and earned international acclaim, with songs that continue to be rediscovered by audiences of all ages.

Alongside the writer of “O Leãozinho” and “Sozinho”, the line-up also features Portuguese artist Slow J, Brazilian musicians João Gomes and Lulu Santos, and Angolan singer Bonga.

Hipódromo Manuel Possolo, Av. da República 371 (Cascais). 30–31 May, Sat–Sun. €70–€140.
