One of Cascais’ most iconic landmarks and a star of the Museum Quarter, the Condes de Castro Guimarães Museum – perched at the edge of Parque Marechal Carmona, overlooking the Santa Marta cove – is about to celebrate its 94th anniversary. Inaugurated on July 12 1931, it was the very first museum in Cascais, created around the artistic and bibliographic collection donated by Count Manuel de Castro Guimarães to the municipality.

The celebrations kick off this Saturday, July 12, at 10.30, with a free interactive activity for children titled “What’s Hiding in the Count’s Suitcase?”. Organised by the museum’s Cultural and Educational Service, participation is free but registration is required – just call +351 214 815 303 or email mccg@cm-cascais.pt.

On Sunday July 13, at 17.00, the museum gardens will host an open-air concert by the Banda Filarmónica da Sociedade Musical Alvidense – no tickets needed. Then, on the following Saturday, July 19th, at 18.30, visitors are invited to enjoy a flute and harp recital dedicated to Count Castro Guimarães and his favourite composers. Flautist David Silva and harpist Rebeca Amorim Csalog will perform pieces by Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy. Admission is also free, but limited to 50 people – so advance booking is a must.
