The Festas do Mar, which take place every year on Cascais Bay, will not be held this Thursday, September 4. The decision was announced by Cascais City Council following the accident on Lisbon’s Elevador da Glória, which has so far claimed 17 lives and left 21 injured. The Government declared a national day of mourning, which the local authority has joined, postponing Thursday’s concerts to Monday, September.
The scheduled performances by Bianca Barros (7pm), João Só (8pm) and Richie Campbell (10pm) will now take place on Monday. The rest of the Festas do Mar programme remains unchanged, with names like Carminho, D.A.M.A., Ricardo Ribeiro and Santos & Pecadores set to take to the main stage in the coming days.
Running from August 28 to September 7, the Festas do Mar draw thousands of people every year to Cascais Bay. Entry is free, with daily concerts on the Cascais Stage at 7pm, 8pm and 10pm, plus a second stage at the Cidadela showcasing emerging talent, and children’s shows at Jardim Visconde da Luz.
With this change, Cascais gains an extra day of festivities: instead of wrapping up on 7 September, the official finale will now take place on September 8, closing with Richie Campbell and the other artists originally set for Thursday night.
