The Board Games Festival is back in Carcavelos, but now in a new venue. On 9 and 10 May, NOVA SBE opens its doors to families for a different kind of weekend. Entry is free up to the age of 18.

“We believe that board games contribute to healthier relationships among everyone and, above all, that they bring moments of fun that will remain in the memories of children and adults forever,” reads a statement about the event, which brought together more than two thousand people in the 2025 edition, at the Salão Preto e Prata of Casino Estoril.

This is the fifth edition of this initiative by the Instituto de Apoio à Criança (IAC) – a Portuguese non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and protecting children’s rights –, which this year has as ambassadors the hosts Fábio Lima, Miguel Gonçalves, Nuno Alves, Pedro Morais Soares and – drum roll – Banda Zig Zag.

As in previous editions, visitors will be able to try a wide variety of board games, from the simplest, ideal for younger children from the age of four, to more challenging options for experienced players.

As usual, you can count on the presence of some of the largest Portuguese board game publishers, such as Devir, Mebo Games, DiverCentro, Salta da Caixa, Pythagoras, One Crime Story, Concentra and Creative Toys. In addition, teams will also be present ready to explain the rules.

The event takes place over the weekend of 9 and 10 May, from 10AM to 7PM. Those over 18 must purchase a daily ticket, costing €2, which goes towards supporting the IAC.

Rua da Holanda, 1 (Carcavelos). 9–10 May, Sat–Sun 10:00 AM–7:00 PM. €2 (free up to the age of 18)
