Estoril gets ready to host the inaugural edition of the World Sevens Football from May 21st to 23rd - a brand-new international women’s football competition that sets the stage for the UEFA Women’s Champions League final, taking place on May 24th at Lisbon’s Estádio José Alvalade.
Benfica, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Ajax, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, AS Roma and FC Rosengard are among the clubs stepping onto the pitch for this seven-a-side tournament, which introduces a fresh format and promises high-octane action.
Everything will unfold at the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota, home to Estoril Praia. Matches will last 30 minutes, split into two 15-minute halves. Much like in other sports, substitutions can be made at any time. Games will be played on half a standard 11-a-side football pitch, using slightly smaller goals.
The tournament champions will take home a prize of €4.5 million — that’s €3 million more than what the winners of the Women’s Champions League will receive.
Tickets — priced between €10 and €550, depending on the day and package — are available online via the official World Sevens Football website, where you can also find more information.
Rua Dom Bosco, 531, Estoril. €10–€550
