Pastoral, the local cheese shop, now has a wine bar. A short list of wines is available by the bottle, glass and half glass, which makes it easy to try a variety. The wine list regularly changes, but the Jochen Beurer riesling was wonderfully dry and stony, while the Barboursville chardonnay was a crisp and clean way to start the evening. Appellation serves composed cheese plates that focus on themes, like New Classics, with a funky camembert from Minnesota and salty Jasper Hill Clothbound Cheddar. Cheese is present in most of the bar snacks and larger plates, including toast piled with tomato-leek relish, an anchovy and hard podda cheese. Housemade charcuterie includes country pate with extra depth from bacon and a showstopping rabbit rillette, capped with whipped mustard butter.

I ate here for the first time last weekend and it's turning out to be one of my favorite brunch spots! The ambiance was perfect especially with the warm weather and the windows  were opened. They have a great selection of healthy and delectable menu. I ordered the brunch board and my friend got the asparagus quiche, both were equally savory. They also have bottomless mimosas which is of course a big plus! Another good thing is the artisan market that shares its space so you can gab artisan cheese and wine to go as well.

I haven't had a full meal here yet, but I can tell you it's a great spot for wine and some small bites. My friends and I stopped in here the other night and our waiter was so sweet—he helped us find an affordable bottle of wine, made recommendations on cheeses based on our preferences and was very attentive without being annoying. The cheeses were great, the wine was flowing and the atmosphere is perfect. I'll definitely be back!

Mm mm, cheese. I can't say enough great things about Appellation. Located within/next to the Pastoral cheese shop, the restaurant offers a great selection of cheeses (duh) and entrees that are super delicious, served quickly, and paired with an on point wine list. On weekends there is usually a wait but feel free to grab a drink from the bar and peruse the shop. It will pass the time and increase your appetite!

While the menu is seasonal (my favorites include the chicken thigh for its tender meat and crispy flavorful skin and the lamb chops) you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Don't be a dummy...start with a cheese plate ;)
