Boobs and Goombas

It’s a simple premise: Mario and Luigi have become so frustrated and confused with trying to rescue Princess Toadstool from the evil Bowser that everything, even their most deadly enemies, now looks like seductive women! What’s a pair of plumbers to do? At Boobs and Goombas—a Super Mario Bros.–themed burlesque show—Mario and Luigi battle sensual versions of poisonous fish, high-flying ghosts and Koopa Troopas all in an effort to finally get it on with the princess.

“The whole show is just kind of insane and ridiculous,” explains director MsPixy. “We made a few Yoshis out of old pants and puppet materials. There’s a Benny Hill–style chase scene. We just wanted to have some fun.”

The group is still determining whether more naughty-nerd performances will roll out in the future. Tentatively calling itself the Sci-Fi Superhero Burlesque Show, it’s using Boobs and Goombas as a test run to see how many people cross over in the geek and burlesque genres. If the show does well—meaning ticket sales are high and audience members bring enough “coins” (dollars) to unlock the alternate ending—viewers can expect to see more 16-bit tits in the future.

“My boyfriend is really advocating a ThunderCats or Star Trek show in the future,” MsPixy says. “That’s on the list of possibilities along with Transformers and Harry Potter.”

Boobs and Goombas takes it to the next level at Gorilla Tango Theater, 1919 N Milwaukee Ave (773-598-4549, gorillatango.com), on Fridays and Saturdays in October at 11pm. $15.
