From Chicago! Jazz Quintet plays original compositions, with solid grooves and world music influences.

Featuring: Jeff Kier-piano and composer, Michael Hershenson-guitar and composer, Dave Grilly-sax, Lanny Grilly-drums, and Brian Sandstrom-acoustic bass.

The group members have a long history in Jazz – they’ve played with, or shared the stage with jazz greats, such as Ahmad Jamal, Herbie Hancock, Sonny Stitt,, Elvin Jones, Buster Williams, Willie Pickens, Henry Johnson, Chuck Webb, Dave Liebman, Bill Evans, Mose Allison, Judy Roberts, Hal Russell, John Campbell, Hoagy Carmichael, Frank D.Rone, Howard Levy, Rusty Jones, Robert Shy, Mark Walker, Mayo Tiana, James Sanders, Fareed Haque, Gallib Ghalab, Larry Novak, Larry Coryell, Tina Turner…just to name a few.

They are called upon to play as guest artists, at universities, such as, The University Of Chicago, Triton College, Northeastern University, and Roosevelt College. The members have played across the nation from The Lion Share in San Francisco, The Desert Inn in Las Vegas, The Jazz Showcase & The Green Mill in Chicago, and Smalls in Greenwich Village.

The Sonic Poets perform pianist Jeff Kier's jazz compositions. Mark Stevens, a San Francisco DJ, commented that "Jeff was emerging as one of the great composers of our time." Their last CD, "Goin' Places!", by Jeff Kier & The Grilly Brothers, on the BluJazz label, was Grammy Recognized in 2009.

The Sonic Poets current show combines Jeff's indelible melodies and the band’s unique fusion of solid grooves and seductive world-rhythms.
