Folk and Americana Music

The Way Down Wanderers is a folk/rock group that hails from Peoria, Illinois. The members include: Austin Thompson, Collin Krause, Robert Johnson, Paul Perrilles, John Williams and Ben Montalbano. The band is influenced by many different styles of music, as all of the musicians have considerably different musical backgrounds and upbringings. Austin Thompson was a music major at Illinois Central College and a professional percussionist who plays in an indie rock band (Tassel Brothers). He also spends his time writing spoken word and rap music, bringing these influences to the band. Collin Krause is a fiddle player who discovered his true love for music when he was first introduced to his grandfather's bluegrass band. Collin currently plays fiddle and mandolin in a country band (Spring Creek Station). Collin brings the influences of country and bluegrass music to The Way Down Wanderers. Robert Johnson is currently a music student whose jazz and classical background adds different levels to a traditional folk sound. Benjamin Montalbano graduated from U of I with a degree in Music Composition. He has won many awards for his highly regarded classical pieces. Paul Perrilles is a young drummer who spends his time studying jazz and playing in marching band. John Williams is was a former classical upright bass performance major as well as a talented singer/songwriter. Together, The Way Down Wanderers hope to create a unique and creative sound that is genre-encompassing and individualistic, while still maintaining a firm grip on its folk roots.
