Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland says
The 36th annual Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland kicks off with a double bill featuring the Dominick Farinacci Quintet, plus the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra with special guests Take 6.

Take 6 is the most awarded vocal group in history with 10 Grammys, 10 Dove Awards and a Soul Train Award. Known for its crystal clear harmony, innovative arrangements and funky grooves, Take 6 performances bubble into a brew of gospel, jazz, R&B and pop. The six vocal virtuosos include Claude McKnight, Mark Kibble, Joel Kibble, Alvin Chea, Dave Thomas and Khristian Dentley.

At age 16, John Clayton was taken under the wing of the legendary Ray Brown. It wasn’t long after that he began touring with the Monty Alexander Trio and the Count Basie Orchestra. After a five-year tenure as principal bassist in the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, where he married and started a family, he returned to Southern California and founded the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and the Clayton Brothers with his brother Jeff. He has composed and arranged for Diana Krall, Whitney Houston, Carmen McRae, Joe Williams, Quincy Jones, Barbra Streisand and many others. Known as an outstanding educator, he serves as Artistic Director for the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, the Port Townsend Summer Jazz Workshop and the Vail Jazz Workshop. Clayton consistently ranks in the top ten Jazz Times and DownBeat Critics Poll as a bassist, big band leader and arranger, and won a Grammy for Queen Latifah’s recording of “I’m Gonna’ Live til I Die.”

Dominick Farinacci was attending music classes at Tri-C when he was discovered by Wynton Marsalis at Tri-C JazzFest. He graduated Juilliard on full scholarship and launched his career in Japan with a prolific run of eight albums. Currently, he serves as Global Ambassador to Jazz at Lincoln Center, working to integrate jazz into communities in the Middle East. Dominick is a featured performer for the Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi.
