Time Out says

This major landmark stands just outside the northern wall of the Diocletian's Palace. It depicts Grgur Ninski (Gregory of Nin) in a characteristic pose, book in hand – this medieval clergyman was an early pioneer and promoter of the Slavic language for use in church. Renowned sculptor Ivan Meštrović was responsible for this imposing figure, whose big toe gets rubbed by passers-by for good luck.
