Chicago comes to Glasgow this week as two stars of the home of house and techno – one a veteran and founding father of hip house, the other a star of the progressive and still groundbreaking face of the contemporary Chi Town electronic dance music scene – spin at separate nights on Friday and Saturday. Elsewhere a special guests-studded second birthday bash promises a return trip to the disco cosmos.

Big Foot’s Tea Party w/ The Black Madonna – Sub Club, Fri Apr 24
The Bigfoot's crew welcome an extra special guest in the form of Chicago’s The Black Madonna – AKA electronic dance music’s very own riot grrrl Marea Vierge-Noire – for a three-hour set. A resident at one of America’s oldest independent venues Smart Bar (along with Derrick Carter and the late, great Frankie Knuckles) and now their creative director, this year Vierge-Noire helped launch Smart Bar’s own vinyl imprint. Behind the decks she’s renowned for her fluent and dynamic all-vinyl mixes and her infectious energy.

Cosmic 2nd Birthday w/ JG Wilkes and Spencer B2B – Berkeley Suite, Fri Apr 24
Disco voyager clubnight Cosmic is two and is up for a party. Special guests JG Wilkes – AKA one half of that Glasgow DJ twosome that requires no introduction, Optimo – and founding member and driving force behind the Numbers collective Spencer will perform B2B, taking the dancefloor into outer space until the break of dawn (or near enough). Before that the crowd will be suitably warmed-up by the Cosmic banditos, AKA residents Dondo, Joshua and John.

Tyree Cooper SWG3, Sat Apr 25
Highly influential veteran hip house DJ and producer Tyree Cooper (pictured above) comes to Glasgow courtesy of Made in Chicago. One among several DJs responsible for bringing the urban vibe of hip-hop into the house sphere in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he had a string of underground hits including ‘Acid Crash’ (1987), ‘Turn Up The Bass’ (1988) and ‘Hardcore Hip House’ (1989). In 2013 Cooper launched his own label Chicago Vinyl Records – releasing new material, remixes and unique collaborations – and he shows no signs of slowing down. Support on the night comes from Bosco, Rob Mason and Boom Merchant.
