The first of two May Bank Holiday weekends – typically the gateways to your summer – is upon us. Be sure to stock up on plenty of sleep in the days preceding, because you’re in for a big one by all evidence. Sub Club host their Soundsystem weekender, with residents and guests galore and an NYC block party inspired courtyard (smile, sun gods, smile). La Cheetah and The Art School present nights featuring top drawer touring artists and support from near, far, and further away still.

Joey Anderson – La Cheetah, Friday May 1
As well as being boss of Inimeg, prolific New Jersey cryptic house mix master and producer Joey Anderson has also released on Deconstruct, UntilMyHeartStops, Syncrophone and – with now two albums, his debut ‘After Forever’ and this year’s follow-up ‘1974’ – Dutch imprint Dekmantel. He makes his much-anticipated Scottish debut at La Cheetah courtesy of Missing Persons Club, with support from Wardy, Dom D’Sylva and the Missing Persons residents. It’s going to be a special one, and there’s a 4am license to prove it.

Huntleys and Palmers: James Holden – The Art School, Friday May 1
Part of Glasgow’s Minimal mini-festival, and effectively the after-show for Philip Glass’s ‘Music In 12 Parts’ at the Royal Concert Hall (you’ll get discounted entry with a Philip Glass ticket stub), Huntleys and Palmers welcome hugely respected electronica and minimal techno producer and founder of the Border Community label James Holden (pictured above) for a three hour set. He’s remixed everyone from Madonna to Mogwai – and there’s a pair of artists you don’t often see mentioned in the same sentence – and most recently released a set of collaborations with Moroccan musician Maalem Mahmoud Gania. Support comes from Helena Hauff, Alex Smoke, Karen Gwyer and Hodge.

Sub Club Soundsystem – Sub Club, Saturday May 2-Sunday May 3
Sub Club Soundsystem kicks in to welcome summer. It’s a Bank Holiday weekender of unforgettable house music, killer disco grooves and amazing party vibes, featuring Subbie favourites old and new – Harri and Domenic, Leon Vynehall, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Denis Sulta, Telford, Derrick Carter, Feel my Bicep, Auntie Flo, many more – in unique indoor and outdoor city centre surroundings (TBA), including an NYC block party inspired courtyard. Not that they're banking on the weather being good, or anything.
