The best Glasgow clubs this week

Your opportunity to have a whole heap of fun in aid of a good cause – and no, we’re not talking about Comic Relief here – the Food Bank Fundraiser at The Art School is a bona fide Good Thing that will directly benefit vulnerable people in Glasgow, so don’t muck around when it comes to getting your hands on tickets. Elsewhere this week, there’s a not-to-be-missed special guest  at the Subby and another excuse to get hot and messy at the Poetry Club.

Show presents: Julio Bashmore Sub Club, Thu Mar 12
Bristolian maestro Julio Bashmore is the star attraction at the latest edition of new Sub Club regular night Show. Since exploding onto the scene circa 2010, releasing a string of addictively heavy house-meets-bass tracks from his first self-titled EP on Claude Von Stroke’s Dirtybird label through to summer 2012 club smash ‘Au Sève’, the DJ-producer has been on a precipitous rise-and-rise. Support comes from local heroes Illyus and Theo Kottis.

Food Bank Fundraiser – The Art School, Fri Mar 13
This special guests-packed night across three floors at The Art School has been organised by Optimo (pictured above) and Autonomous Glasgow in support of Glasgow food banks, who will receive 100% of profits raised (don’t bring any food donations though – they can’t transport them). Among the all-star line-up of DJs will be Optimo (Espacio) themselves, alongside Nightwave, Harri & Domenic, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, MWX and Laetitia Pleiades. There’ll also be 'visual stimulation' throughout the building provided by Glasgow artists Torsten Lauschmann, Luke Fowler and Diane Edwards.

Hot Mess – The Poetry Club, Sat Mar 14
Check you inhibitions at the door at 'straight-friendly dance party for queer kids' Hot Mess, the Edinburgh-founded dance party, which is these days every bit as much Glasgow property, popping up as it does every second Saturday of the month at The Poetry Club. Unlike some queer nights, this one is focused firmly on quality tunes above all else – a non-stop, all-vinyl mix of pop classics, obscure synthwave, house, techno and disco – and it has built up a faithful following on that basis. Expect all from Earth Wind and Fire to Kraftwerk, Erol Arkan, Daniel Avery and heavy lashings of LCD Soundsystem and DFA affiliates.
