Good news for fans of all stripes of Glasgow arts, culture and entertainment this week, with great events going on across the music, clubs, film, theatre, art and comedy spectrum. As ever, there are obviously more than ten great events happening in this fair city - these are just the ones we'd argue are extra special.

Butterfly, The Arches, Tue Jan 27
Glasgow-based Singaporean visual theatremaker Ramesh Meyyappan presents his latest project, an adaptation of ‘Madama Butterfly’ told via puppetry, movement and poetic narrative.

I hope you never love anyone as much as I love you, The Glad Café, Tue Jan 27 & Wed Jan 28
What can we say – we’re suckers for long and unwieldy theatre titles. We’re also big fans of the lovelorn world of line-dancing and country music, meaning this new work by Kim Donohoe and Ellie Dubois (staged here as part of The Glad Café’s ‘This one’s for you’ scratch night) is probably tailor-made for us. We reckon you might enjoy it too.

Robin Ince, The Stand, Wed Jan 28
The deep-thinking English comedian, actor and writer tackles the idea of free will in his latest show, Blooming Buzzing Confusion.

Tweedy, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Thu Jan 29
It’s the closing week of Celtic Connections, and as such there are a metric tonne of great, one-off gigs around Glasgow. Space restrictions being what they are though, we’ll limit ourselves to just one recommendation from the final stretch: a performance by Wilco songwriter Jeff Tweedy, currently operating as a duo with his son Spencer on drums.

Clap! Clap!, Stereo, Thu Jan 29
Italian Afro-music producer Cristiano Crisci (aka Digi G'alessio) presents his latest international beats project based on samples of tribes, bands and singers from the African content. He’ll be suitably supported by the Ghana Soundz and Afrodeesia DJs.

Inherent Vice, general release from Fri Jan 30
The release of a new movie from Paul Thomas Anderson ('There Will Be Blood', 'Boogie Nights', 'The Master') is always cause for excitement in the film-loving community. This latest release – a 1970s-set crime comedy caper starring Joaquin Phoenix and Owen Wilson – is no exception.

Motor City Drum Ensemble at Melting Pot, Sub Club, Fri Jan 30
Don’t be fooled by the name – this stellar, genre-spanning German electronica outfit is actually the work of just one man, Danilo Plessow. He’s at the Subbie courtesy of Meltin Pot to kick off the weekend.

Pressure, The Arches, Fri Jan 30
Techno chieftans Slam kick off the first Pressure of 2015 with help from Pan-Pot, Skream, Heidi and Harvard Bass.

Jack Smith: Theatre and Performance Works, The Modern Institute, until Fri Mar 6
The life of the founding father of American performance art is celebrated at this new exhibition at the Modern Institute, incorporating photography, theatre props and film footage of some of Smith’s groundbreaking performances.

The Electric Gardens, Botanic Gardens, until Sun Feb 15
Enjoy a music, light and sound-enhanced walk round the Botanic Gardens, presented by the folks behind the West End Festival.
