Papercup

Another of those extremely stylish continental coffee shops definitely not native to, but increasingly common in Glasgow, Papercup first started brewing in 2012 after taking over the premises of much-missed old vintage clothes shops the Rusty Zip on Great Western Road. They’ve done tastefully little with the space – merely stripped the walls bare, hung a few pendant lamps and pot plants, squeezed some basic tables and chairs in where they’ll fit both inside and out, and installed a simple walk-through service area. It’s exactly as pleasant and uncomplicated a place to hang out as it looks.

The back of the shop is given over to some impressive roasting machinery, where they roast their own beans. Proprietor Graeme Crawford leads a team of highly knowledgable staff, and he’ll tshare his wealth of experience with you, too if you attend one of Papercup’s training sessions. You can even buy equipment and beans to take home afterwards.

Besides the excellent coffee, they also do a simple but very enjoyable selection of daily-changing foods, both sweet and savoury. From freshly made sandwiches and omelettes to pancake stacks, scones and brownies.
