Galeri Manâ opens the season with an incredible group exhibition curated by Persian-American curator Abaseh Mirvali. The names of the participating artists are enough to draw you in: Saadane Afif, Abbas Akhavan, Kutluğ Ataman, Hera Büyüktaşçıyan, Özgür Demirci, Olafur Eliasson, Cevdet Erek, Lara Favaretto, Sarkis, Simon Starling and Alexander Wagner. The exhibition is the first project in a season-long programme, also curated by Abaseh Mirvali, that features works and events aimed at unearthing the structural and cultural history of the building and area in which Galeri Manâ is located. As the title suggests, ‘Reflecting on Reflection’ focuses on the relationship between the two concepts by referencing the process of material production as well as the different intellectual reflexes we build as the viewer and artist, shaped by our own experiences and dependent on our social context. Let’s also note that the three artists whose works will be shown for the first time in Istanbul – Saadane Afif, Abbas Akhavan and Simon Starling – will also host solo exhibitions throughout the season.
