One of Beyoğlu’s, or rather Istanbul’s, best venues, Helvetia was the winner of the VIIth Time Out Istanbul/Miller Eating&Drinking Award for ‘Best home-cooked food’. Located inside what was once a beerhouse, there are no signs on the door but ‘Helvetia’ is written on the wall, a remnant from the original structure. Home-cooked meals are prepared in the open kitchen. Appealing not only for its food but also the eccentric atmosphere, and reasonable prices, their vegetables in olive oil dishes are to die for. We especially recommend the silverbeet ‘borani’ (silverbeet yoghurt salad with rice). Alcohol is not served.
