In all honesty, it isn’t easy for new restaurants in Arnavutköy to stay open for long: due to the neighborhood’s not-so-central location, they either have to make do with regulars or offer fare ambitious enough to draw in the crowds from other parts of the city. The newest eatery to rise to the challenge is Hudson, the brainchild of Uğur Karabayır, who is also the man behind Hardal and Barbounia. The lower level of this two-story restaurant includes a bar and a dining section that’s perfect for lunches or after-work drinks, while the top floor boasts white tablecloths and is a better option for formal dinners. The menu also reflects this high-low combination, so while the focus is on pastas, burgers and salads, you’ll also find dishes that would do fine-dining restaurants proud, like the sliced calamari with basil served on a bed of cauliflower purée. In the kitchen you’ll find Kaan Karagöz, who was trained at Michelin-starred restaurants in Stockholm and Copenhagen and who worked at Alancha for three years prior to assuming the position of chef at Hudson. The eatery is also ambitious when it comes to its cocktails, which are best paired with Hudson’s signature buns featuring shrimp, kaburga and duck.
