A close cousin to Auf, Kauf is a gourmet shop where you can buy the daily flavours of the former – charcuterie offerings, breakfast staples, various organic ingredients and pastry goods. Your options aren’t limited to shopping, of course – you can also have breakfast, sample charcuterie plates and wine during the day or get ready for a night out with special cocktails (like Kauf’s hidden weapon, the Green Geisha made with Absolut, Cardinal Melon, green apple juice, mint and lime).
Kauf blends original design with natural flavours, and it does so with love. The flavour of the prosciutto, Parma ham, smoked meats and Kars gruyere you order with a glass of wine and some sourdough bread is unquestionable as is, but the jars of jam and marmalade, organic fruit juices and the papers they wrap the charcuterie in are worthy of note on their own. The gastronomically inclined will be drawn to rare finds like ketchup made with seasonal farm-grown tomatoes, a truly tasty BBQ sauce, organic pomegranate molasses and vanilla sticks, while fans of design won’t want to pass up on the colourful cupcake liners, cardboard straws, specially designed cheese plates and much, much more.
If the day comes when Nupera’s ground floor takes on a Chelsea Market-like air, Kauf will be there to teach all the newcomers how it’s done. That’s how promising it is.
